participant or their coach will result in forfeiture of the match.
Point Fighting
Competitors will be grouped by age and rank etc.
Continuous Sparring
Matches:
Single matches (not tournament style) arranged by age, sex, weight, and experience as closely as
possible. Matches will be three rounds a piece, and each round will last between one and two minutes
depending on the age of the fighters. There will be a one minute rest between rounds. One min. rounds
for under 12 yrs. old and 2 mn. for over 13 yrs.
Gear:
Fighters wear head gear, mouthpiece, boxing gloves, groin cup (guys) and shin/insteps.Long pants or
shorts are acceptable. Fighters can either go bare-chested, or wear a t-shirt or tank top. T's and tanks
should represent your school; nothing inappropriate will be allowed. Fighters wearing T's or tank tops
must tuck them in so as to clearly mark the waistline.
Styles:
Any legitimate stand-up fighting style (karate, kung fu, tae kwon do, kickboxing, etc.). There is no
grappling in this competition.
Legal techniques:
Hands: Jab, cross, hook, uppercut, spinning backfist (all must land with the front part of the glove).
Legs: All kicks above the knees.
Illegal techniques:
Knees, elbows, forearms, hammer-fists, head butts, takedowns, sweeps, grappling, holding and hitting
or anything else not listed above. This is a sport, not a street fight.
Rules:
Contact is 60 to 70% (NO KNOCKOUTS OR BROKEN NOSES) and continuous during the round unless
otherwise stopped or paused by the referee. No intentionally running out of the ring. Fights can be won
by judges decision or referee stoppage. Unsportsmanlike conduct by a fighter, their ‘corner’ or their
crowd will result in disqualification of the fighter. Any shots that land cleanly count equally. Fights are
scored on a 10 point must system, and scoring is based on volume of clean techniques landed, and
ring dominance. Fighters cannot be saved by the bell in any round including the final round.
Stopping a fight:
The referee can stop the fight at any time, if he feels it is for the safety of a fighter.
The corner can stop a fight by throwing in the towel (yes, a real towel).
If anyone in the fighter’s corner steps into the ring, or otherwise directly interferes with the fighters, the
match will be stopped instantly, and that corner’s fighter will be disqualified.
Safety:
Safety issues come before all others. If a fighter seems like they are hurt, we prefer to err on the side of
safety and stop a match rather that allow anyone to take any unnecessary punishment. This is
particularly true with the kids. Again, this is meant to be a friendly competition where martial artists are
recognized and rewarded for stepping on the mat and doing their best. This is not meant to be a blood
fest. There are other events out there if that is what you are looking for.
Similarly, fighters will be examined before stepping on the mat to make sure they are in compliance with
all required safety equipment. If any gear appears to be unsafe, it will either be repaired, changed, or
the fighter will not compete.
Forms
Competition will be both for Empty Hand and Weapons. No Musical Forms.
